Techniques such as active listening, empathetic communication, and rapport-building are integral in creating a supportive therapeutic environment. The initial session focuses on establishing a strong therapeutic alliance, conducting a comprehensive intake assessment, and collaboratively setting goals. It lays the groundwork for a positive and productive therapeutic journey.
  2. Narrative Therapy: Narrative therapy is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on the stories people construct about their lives and the meaning they assign to those stories. Key principles of narrative therapy include externalizing the problem (separating the person from the problem), deconstructing dominant narratives, exploring alternative narratives, and supporting the client in reclaiming their agency and authorship of their own life story.
  3. Intersectionality: This session will equip participants with essential skills to become culturally competent therapists through an understanding of the multifaceted & interconnected identities people carry that are influenced by socio-cultural & political systems of power & privilege.
  4. Queer Affirmative Therapy:In alignment with Karma Care’s values, this theme champions a Queer Affirmative Therapy lens. The classes engage in an in-depth discussion on gender and sexuality, fostering a queer-affirmative perspective in therapeutic practice. The emphasis is on creating a safe and supportive space for individuals in the queer community. The goal is to empower practitioners with the knowledge and skills to be allies, ensuring inclusivity and respect in therapeutic interactions.

  2. Understanding Violence & Forms of Abuse: therapeutic approach that uses the process of making art to improve mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Participants will learn how to use various art mediums to help clients express themselves, uncover hidden emotions, and foster personal growth. The session includes hands-on activities to demonstrate the therapeutic potential of art in a supportive and non-judgmental environment.
  3. NSSI & Suicide: This segment will provide an understanding of non-suicidal self injury & suicide in clients, along with a focus on risk assessment through case discussions & role-plays to develop essentials skills as a therapist.
  4. Substance Use & Addiction: Addiction is a state of psychological and/or physical dependence on the use of drugs or other substances, such as alcohol, or on activities or behaviors, such as sex, exercise, and gambling. The participants would be introduced to what it would be like to work with a client such as this, the techniques and approaches that can be used, while placing an emphasis on the neurobiology of addiction and dependence.
  5. Anxiety Disorders:Anxiety disorders are a group of mental health conditions characterised by excessive and persistent feelings of worry, fear, or apprehension. Anxiety disorders can interfere with a person’s daily life, making it difficult for them to perform everyday tasks, maintain relationships, or pursue their goals and interests. Major anxiety disorders we will cover are Panic disorder, Agoraphobia, Specific phobia, generalised anxiety disorder, and Mixed anxiety and depressive disorder.
